Stainless steel reactor explosion risk is low, but excess catalyst, fast feeding, or mechanical impurities can cause rapid heating or local friction and decomposition. Prevent by excluding impurities, checking parts/maintenance, calibrating instruments, controlling catalyst and uniform feed, and keeping oxygen below 1 ppm. The closed circulation system has an insulated expansion vessel (medium <60°C), -100–200°C range, 1–80 kW cooling, no mechanical/electronic valves.
During the use of stainless steel reactors, the risk of decomposition and explosion has become extremely low. This is naturally due to continuous advancements in reactor design technology, which have significantly improved the safety factors of various reactor products. However, certain serious operational errors may still pose a risk of decomposition and explosion in stainless steel reactors.
For example, excessive catalyst dosage or overly rapid feeding rates can cause a sudden and rapid temperature rise, leading to reactor decomposition and explosion. Mechanical impurities introduced into the reactor may generate localized frictional heat, also resulting in decomposition and explosion.
Preventive Measures:
1. Ensure that no mechanical impurities are dropped during maintenance. Worn bearing components generating heat and overheating can lead to elevated temperatures and subsequent reactor failure.
2. Strictly inspect spare parts quality and improve maintenance standards. Friction between impeller blades and reactor walls causing localized overheating may trigger decomposition and explosion.
3. Enhance both maintenance quality and spare parts quality. Malfunctions in the catalyst system's instrumentation or control systems, or failures in the catalyst pump, can result in reactor breakdown.
4. Inspect and calibrate instruments thoroughly to ensure accuracy and sensitivity. Excessive catalyst dosage or too-fast feeding rates causing rapid temperature spikes may lead to decomposition and explosion.
5. Strictly control catalyst dosage and maintain uniform feeding. Elevated oxygen levels within the process system can cause decomposition and explosion; typically, oxygen content should not exceed 1 ppm.
6. Strictly monitor and control oxygen concentration in the process system.
Key Considerations for Heating, Cooling, and Temperature Control Systems in Stainless Steel Reactors:
The entire liquid circulation system of the stainless steel reactor is closed and equipped with an expansion vessel. The expansion vessel is thermally insulated from the liquid circulation loop and does not participate directly in the fluid flow—it is only mechanically connected. The medium inside the expansion vessel must remain below 60°C, regardless of whether the reactor’s circulating fluid operates at high or low temperatures.
The entire liquid circulation system is sealed, preventing moisture absorption at low temperatures and avoiding oil mist generation at high temperatures. Heat transfer fluids offer a wide operating temperature range—using the same equipment and thermal medium, temperature control from -100°C to 200°C is achievable. Refrigeration capacity ranges from 1 kW to 80 kW, and the entire circulation system uses no mechanical or electronic valves.
